Dr. Sanford Chandler

Dr. Sanford Chandler received his baccalaureate and master degrees from Auburn University and his doctoral degree from the School of Leadership and Lifelong Learning at the University of Georgia. 
 
Dr. Chandler has an extensive background in public and private sector activities. His educational career began in 1975 as a teacher at Opelika High School. Since that time he has spent 30 years in secondary and postsecondary education. His experience in education includes numerous leadership and administrative responsibilities. He has served as a Division Chair, Dean for Institutional Advancement, Vice President for Instruction, Vice President of Operations, and currently serves as President of Appalachian Technical College in Jasper, Georgia.
 
Dr. Chandler has served on numerous board and advisory councils across the United States. In 1982 he was appointed to the Board of Examiners of Landscape Architects for the State of Alabama and served as chairman of the board. He has also served on the Georgia Urban Forestry Council; Calhoun Rotary Club Board of Directors; Cherokee County Goals 2000; National Agriculture Technical Education Committee for the University of New Hampshire; and the advisory boards for Etowah High School and South Cobb High School. He also served on the Gordon County Industrial Development Authority. Dr. Chandler has served on the Chamber Board of Directors in Gordon County (Chairman) and Cherokee County, and he currently serves on the Pickens County Chamber of Commerce Board. Dr. Chandler also serves as a Commissioner for the Council on Occupational Education, Chair of the Gilmer/Pickens County Joint Development Authority, Chair of the Pickens County Courthouse Commission, and Chair of the Jasper/Pickens County Economic Development Council. Dr. Chandler is a member of the North Georgia RESA board and is active in educational, civic, and community activities.  
 
Dr. Chandler is a certified Team Leader for the Council on Occupational Education and has actively participated in accreditation visits for postsecondary educational institutions throughout the southeast. In 1996, he received the distinguished MALTA Pioneer Award and the Unilever Award of Excellence and Commitment. He is a graduate of Leadership Calhoun/Gordon County and the Department of Community Affairs Regional Economic Leadership Academy. As a Rotarian, he holds the Lee Arrendale award for Vocational Excellence. 
 
Dr. Chandler’s takes great pride in his family, and he and his wife, Desiree, have been married for 38 years. They have four children and five grandchildren. Dr. Chandler and Desiree reside in Jasper, Georgia.
